3-4 The Nationalization of Gang Violence: The Party Commands the Gun, and the Military, Police, and Judiciary Become Instruments of “House Law”

SECTION FOCUS
This section examines how a single gang acquires and monopolizes the violence of the state. The army pledges its loyalty to the Party and the leader, the public-security and political-legal apparatus obeys political orders, the disciplinary and intelligence systems keep watch over the interior, and prisons and the instruments of coercion are concentrated in the hands of the organization; the public instruments that ought to be bound by the constitution thereby become private instruments for enforcing “family law” and for the repression of society. 3-4-1
