5-6-4-2-5 Authorial argument, database judgment, institutional comparison, policy and law, and applications for public communication CHAPTER 6 Economic Plunder in the Early Years of CCP Rule Violent Land Reform, the Destruction of Private Property, Commune Enslavement, and the Great Famine (1949–1966) CORE ARGUMENT OF THIS CHAPTER. This chapter shows how, in the name of “public ownership” and “socialist transformation,” the CCP — through violent land reform, forced collectivization, joint state-private ownership, unified purchase and sale, the people’s communes, and the Great Leap Forward — destroyed the people’s independent land, enterprises, property, and capacity to survive, building an enslaving economy of “Party ownership” (owned by the bandit Party and decided by the leader alone). The killing of roughly 1.5 million landlords in land reform and the driving to death of roughly 400,000 business owners in the transformation of industry and commerce were only the beginning; the Great Famine of around 1959–1962 can by no means be summed up as a single “policy error” — inflated quotas, false reporting, coercive requisitioning, restrictions on fleeing famine, the blockading of news of hunger, and inadequate relief made the deaths of tens of millions and the ruin of their families a systemic catastrophe. Different studies estimate roughly 37.55 million to 41.5 million excess deaths; this database preserves, item by item, the sources, definitions, regional variations, and counterevidence. CONCRETE ENTRY POINT. The granaries were under guard, yet the villagers dug up wild herbs and ate tree bark; those fleeing the famine were turned back, news of the hunger was suppressed, and requisitioning went on. Macro-level statistics must be brought back to every starving person, family, and village. SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION BOUNDARY. This chapter includes only material directly related to “Economic Plunder in the Early Years of CCP Rule: Violent Land Reform, the Destruction of Private Property, Commune Enslavement, and the Great Famine (1949–1966)” — its ideas, institutions, events, implementation, victims, and lines of responsibility. Terms used in the catalog such as “evil, terror, plunder, enslavement, deception, and crime” are openly stated value judgments or characterizations of mechanism; they must be supported by verifiable fact, and every major figure must be recorded with its source, its basis of counting, and its range. Sharpness does not mean lowering the standard; it means refusing to use neutral language to conceal concrete harm Folder · PG-E
